My practice privileges the lived experiences of Black people. Whether they are historical figures, friends, or my siblings, these individuals have helped shape my self perception and changing outlooks of the world around me. My desire is to embody what I feel that we are: a changing, complex, vulnerable, emotionally intelligent, imaginative network of humans. I embrace and establish situations where possibilities can arise from an individual’s experience of having to be in the proximity of another person’s life. My practice is dedicated to expanding upon the spaces in which I and others may perceive Black lives to exist. The work is made to create possibilities for a Black person who may need them, someone who may not yet exist.
